Getting a Fishing License

Fishing is a sport that has a couple of limitations placed on it.  For one thing, there are some bodies of water where you are never going to be allowed to fish.  And for another thing, there is also a license that you are going to need to get in most states, if you are going to fish without possibly incurring a penalty and a fine for doing so.  The fines are not exceptionally high, but why would you want to get on the wrong side of the law over something which is so simple to do?  You might as well just get your fishing license and be done with it.

In most states, getting your fishing license is a fairly simple process to go through.  There is a form that you have to fill out, and a small fee that you will have to pay.  In some cases, you can even purchase a fishing license that is valid for life (in the same way that you can purchase such a thing for hunting licenses). This can often save you a lot of time down the line, and a goodly amount of money over renewing your license every year or two.

The good thing about a fishing license is that it functions as more than just an ID for when you go out to fish.  It also allows you to fund the restoration efforts of some fish species, and to help ensure that there are game wardens around who also patrol for such violations as polluters of our waterways.  The idea of fishing is to conserve the environment, so that generations to come can enjoy it, too.  We owe that kind of courtesy to them.
